Diwali Celebrations (7th Nov 2010)

AMM Diwali 2010 Celebrations were a great success! We were truly overwhelmed with the response and finally had to accommodate 165 people in the daylong event although we had planned to limit the number to 100 only (limitations of the hall). We experienced the true spirit of Diwali exemplified in the event. People from all age groups – from Grandparents to Grandchildren actively participated in all activities of the event and shared the spirit of Diwali with an abundance of fun, food and laughter.

Dasara Celebrations (17th Oct 2010)

Adelaide Marathi Mandal Dasara event was a very joyous evening filled with fun, food, music and a genuine spirit of goodwill. We had close to 75 people participate in this informal event with a ‘gharghuti’ feel to it.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations (11 Sept 2010)

We were privileged to have two highly acclaimed celebrities from India in Dr. Shankar Abhyankar and Arati Ankalikar- Tikekar as our guests for this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations. Dr. Shankar Abhyankar is an internationally acclaimed authority on Vedanta and has more than 30 books to his credit. The highlights of our program involved devotional bhajans sung by Arati and a thought provoking and insightful talk by Dr. Shankar Abhyankar on ‘Science and Spirituality’. It was also a wonderful experience for our local artist Ria Thakur to perform with Arati.

All throughout the program, the devotees were totally involved and we had no issues with crowd disturbances. All Marathi families actively volunteered to make the event successful and deserve full praise. Special thanks are due to Nandu Nandoskar and Huzi Bagaswarla for excellent program management. We received some negative feedback about the vegetable pulav (not tasty and oily). We will ensure that this is addressed before the next event.
Adelaide Marathi Community collectively donated more than $5000 to the temple. This included some significant individual donations (the donors have humbly requested not to promote their generosity).

Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar (9 Sept 2010)

Arati’s program was sold out a day before the 9th and we had to decline late requests for tickets. The audience was treated to a virtuoso performance for nearly 3 hours. At the end of the performance, Arati received a rapturous, standing ovation from the audience.

Arati won our hearts not only with her consummate musical skills but also with her unassuming nature. For someone who happens to be a leading artist in India, she carried herself with utmost humility. Arati not only graciously performed free of charge at the Hindu Temple but also enthusiastically helped Juthika in preparing modaks.

We were most encouraged with the event and hope to get Arati and other artists of similar calibre visit us again in the future.
